MOBOs - The After Shock

So those of you that watched the show may have noticed something......two of the UK's best selling 'Urban' artists, Dizzee Rascal and Tinchy Stryder didn't win any awards.....does that shock you?

Well it definitely shocked Tinchy Stryder, who looked set to win at least one MOBO award. He took to Twitter to express his views:

"So I didnt win a mobo after havin da highest selling urban single of the year and sellin over 1million singles this year, cool. F the MOBOs" - statement of the year

Quite a lot of people agreed that Tinchy and Dizzee should've at least won an award and have set up a Twitition (Twitter Petition) 'Tinchy Stryder + Dizzee Rascal got PARRED, set up by journalist Chantelle Fiddy.

I do agree that with all the success both Tinchy and Dizzee have had over the past year they should've won an award....however we need to remember how nominees win......the public vote for them.

Not winning a MOBO isn't the end of the world....loads of talented acts haven't won MOBOs.

MOBOs 2009 Rundown

This years' MOBO Awards were held at the SECC in Glasgow, Scotland, and I must admit it was quite a good show! *shock*

This year the MOBOs went all out on production - lighting and pyros, however the sound wasn't up to par, which is a shame.

Hosted by the sexy Keri Hilson and Reggie Yates, the night focused a lot on our very own UK talent, which is something to celebrate and be proud of as this is the first time the MOBOs have done this - with performances by N-Dubz, Tinchy Stryder, Chipmunk and Ironik who performed a medley together, Mr Husdon (what part of his music is MOBO is still unknown to me), and the ladies' favourite group, JLS. Tinchy Stryder was meant to perform a medley of his hits, including his #1 single 'Never Leave You' with Amelle from the Sugababes, but that got cancelled due to all the Sugababes madness that's going on at the moment.

The MOBOs put together a Micheal Jackson tribute,(which could've been a lot better....it's MJ for heaven's sake), lead by Latoyah Jackson, which included performances from Diversity, Briatin's Got Talent contestant Shaheen Jafargholi who gave a great performance of 'I'll Be There' and MJ's brother Jermaine Jackson who sang 'Smile' (again).

Peter Andre was the backstage reporter and I'm sorry to say he didn't do a good job. MOBO next year bring back Ace & Viz please!!

Other acts to perform were Keri Hilson who was joined on stage by Taio Cruz for 'Knock You Down, Kelly Rowland and David Guetta performed 'When Love Takes Over' which was a pitchy performance from Kelly, and Young Soul Rebels performed their War Child single 'I Got Soul' which ended the show for 2009.

To date, this was the best produced MOBOs show ever!! It wasn't fantastic, but it's a lot better than previous shows. Well done to the whole MOBOs team, Outside PR, the acts that took part, the nominees and the winners.

I hope 2010 brings an even better MOBO show

UPDATE: Bad Boy/Interscope

The press release by Interscope Geffen A&M states that Bad Boy will have an imprint under the Interscope label, meaning that any new signing Diddy makes under Bad Boy will be under Interscope too.

"The new label deal will include all Diddy's future music ventures and his upcoming album, Last Train To Paris, will be the first release on the new joint venture between Bad Boy Records and Interscope. The single "Love Come Down" will be serviced physically and digitally this week with a video, directed by Rage, to follow shortly."

"Diddy leaves Warner Music Group (WMG) imprint Atlantic Records after five years. The current Bad Boy roster and catalog will remain with Bad Boy's WMG joint venture"

This means that current Bad Boy artists Day 26, Janelle Monet and Cassie will stay under Atlantic/Warner Music.

Front Cover: Jay-Z and Ian Brown For NME Magazine

"The King of Manchester Meets The King of New York"

British punk-rocker Ian Brown and rapper Jay-Z are interviewed for the next issue of NME Magazine.

The interview is a good read....there are some interesting quotes from Jay-Z.

Bad Boy Closes Its Doors??

I read on GlobalGrind that Bad Boy would be closing its doors very soon with an announcement to be made during the week. Bad Boy Records was founded in 1993 by Sean 'Diddy' Combs and is under Warner Music Group and is distributed by Atlantic Records.

As most will know Diddy now has a solo deal with Interscope records and will continue to release his own albums....this is why his forthcoming album, 'Last Train To Paris' has been pushed back to 2010. This recent solo deal now makes sense......

Diddy just tweeted this - which I guess is his unofficial statement on the matter:
"Thank you to the Atlantic records staff. Thank you to Julie, Kys, Lyor Cohen, and Edgar Broffman! Thank you for Believing!!!"

As of yet no official announcement has been made.

What's going to happen to the rest of the Bad Boy artists Cassie, Day 26 and Janelle Monae??

Cassie's sophomore album, was said to also be pushed back to 2010....will Diddy help his lover get another record contract...or will she be joining him at Interscope?

Watch how all former Bad Boy recording artists come out of the woodworks and state how this is 'typical' behaviour for Diddy - looking out for himself and nobody else.

It's an end of an era people!

**UPDATE**

Diddy has made it official via Twitter:

"Its official: The BADBOY/INTERSCOPE Era has begun!!!! Let's make some HITS people! Daddys Home! Its a new day! BADBOY 4 Life!! Let's get it!"

New Kid On The Block: Majestic

The UK's dismal Garage scene is about to undergo a serious transformation. Nip and tucking away a dreary cloud suffused with a past of violence, ( remember the drama with the So Solid crew?), and an unfair misrepresentation by way of the media, the once favoured music genre has slowly been drifting into the land of no return, that was until refuge was found in the form of Majestic.

Evolving from a 15 year old boy admiring the Garage scene into a master of his craft as an MC, Majestic has come a long way from the days he spent perfecting his skills on the countless appearances he made on some London's popular pirate radio stations, notably UKG, garnering attention from and collaborating with garage connoisseurs such as DJ EZ ,Sticky, Matt Jam Lamont and Logan Sama.

Following on from a successful collaboration with The Wide Boys which led to them engineering a Garage classic compilation album, placing them at number three in the national compilation charts, gained Majestic even more exposure. None however that will compare to the level of exposure his new single 'In the V.I.P' will accumulate. Teaming up with the boys again, his new single has a sound that is reminiscent of the good 'ol days' when garage music was as its peak, with an infectious beat and flow that would make you want to jump in the middle skank, the club banger has even been championed by the likes of Ras Kwame and Mista Jam.

Majestic is definitely set to reignite the Garage flame and rekindle the love we all had for the genre, so do not be surprised if you find yourself Rolex sweeping in the V.I.P

'In The V.I.P' is due to be released on 5th October 2009 via Biglife Records

Alexandra Burke To Replace Sugababes At MOBOs

Alexandra Burke has been asked to take the place of Keisha Buchannan at the MOBOs this year by handing out an award.

Keisha was meant to attend the awards but has pulled out as Amelle was meant to attend and perform the #1 single 'Never Leave You' with Tinchy Stryder, but now Amelle has pulled out too! The two don't want to bump into each other which is understandable.

They'll have to come face to face with each other sooner or later......

Image: Thebosh.com

Amelle Receives Death Threats???

I know everyone is upset about Keisha Buchannan being 'politley asked to leave' the Sugababes, but this is one step too far!

The Sun newspaper is reporting today that Amelle Berrabah has been receiving hate mail and death threats from Keisha fans. Her management team have recived large numbers of letters which blame Amelle as the main reason why Keisha was ousted. She is apparently too scared to leave her house and has had her Twitter page over-run with abusive posts.

Who knew the break-up would cause such a stir??? Hit up the link below to read the full story.

NEW FLAVA (VIDEO) : Bashy - 'Life'

This is the fourth video Bashy has released for his debut album 'Catch Me If You Can'.
Have a good listen to the lyrics.....

Nonsense: 'Nandos Skank'

My only comment is....I hope Nando's acknowledges this free advertisement and at least gives them free Nando's meals for a year.

Will you be doing the Nando's Skank whilst waiting for some Peri-Peri?

What's next the 'Big Mac Skank'?

Album Review: Dizzee Rascal - 'Tongue N' Cheek'

East London’s born and bred, Bow E3 bachelor, Dylan ‘Dizzee Rascal’ Mills, returns with his fourth solo album ‘Tongue N' Cheek’. ‘Boy in da corner’ no more, Dizzee, over his four album tirade, has transgressed from an aggressively grimey adolescent MC to chart topping electro- pop superstar. Washing his hands clean of Grime with this effort, as with the lacklustre 'Maths and English', Dizzee has reflectively produced an album embracing elements of heightened popular culture, possibly unheard of by his early Grime-head, Roll Deep affiliated fans.

Boasting three U.K number one singles: ‘Dance With Me’, ‘Bonkers’ and ‘Holiday’, Mr Rascal, as labelled by news man Jeremy Paxman, has evidently taken enormous steps away from the pastures of Grime, but this time with great effect and success. This is also made clearer in the array of dance music producers, including the likes of Calvin Harris, Armand Van Helden and Tiesco, consistently infusing techno and disco dance elements at the same time.

'Road Rage' is a distinctive head banger! The raw qualities of the harsh, gargantuan thuds and baseline sounds, beneath an aggressively rugged and simplified vocal, will be music to some early Rascal fans' ears, as he speaks on his thoughts and actions over his caution for road rage in December 2008.

'Dirtee Cash' sounds like a guaranteed follow up to Rascals latest number one hits, re-living an element of early 90’s club land dance reminiscences, further enforced by a sample of Stevie V’s 'Money Talks’.

The album title alone connotes Mr Rascal; ‘Tongue’ being his ways of word play and verbal communication, and ‘Cheek’ describing his mischievous, defiant un-apologetic character. Dizzee sounds extremely assured and confident in this effort as he swaggers about tracks detailing a new found chart topping lifestyle of scantily clad lady friends, ample leisure time and seemingly large sums of money to blow: “Dizzee Dizz I keep da money coming in/ £850 jeans covering ma skin/Coz ma legs are skinny but ma pockets ain’t thin/ Every time I buss a smile it’s a big money grin!”

Though the insanely nippy speech and raw articulation fashioned to his early fans has more or less evaporated, you could say that this is Dizzee Rascal's best commercial effort of an album and is too accomplished to not warrant a listen to. The outdoor party potential is immense, and any true followers of this year’s number one summer festival gatecrasher will be resolutely pleased with ‘Tongue N' Cheek’.

Jade Ewen Tweets About Her 'Friendship' With Keisha Buchanan

Jade has been saying her piece quite a lot this week about her future with the Sugababes in the press. Keisha had previously said, whilst rumours were rife that Jade was joining the group, that Jade was her friend. Last night Jade took to Twitter to set Keisha's claims straight:

"lets clear ths up,I have NEVER met keisha in MY LIFE.we were NEVER FRIENDS.dont understand what shes tryna to achieve by lying"

After Jade tweeted this, her account was not accessible - I think she closed her account.......

Keri Hilson To Perform At The MOBOs

I already hinted in a previous post on the MOBOs line-up that Keri Hilson maybe making an appearance at the awards show next week. Miss Hilson announced on Twitter that she will be performing at the MOBOs and will be flying into London tomorrow.

The MOBOs actually planned to break this news to the world themselves.....but Keri beat them to it. You have to be quick these days to break news....MOBOs you should know this already!!

Keri is the first US act to be confirmed to perform at the MOBOs, well second if you include Jermaine Jackson, and there will be other US acts to be announced by the end of this week. Last month Janet Jackson was said to be perfoming at the show but this story has now been denied by the MOBOs, who say that they've never confirmed her attendance.

I wonder who else is set to peform........

London Fashion Week - Celebs @ the Burberry Show

Liv Tyler, Emma Watson & Gwyneth Paltrow were the on front row at Burberry Prorsum SS10 womenswear show today.

And our favourite Olsen twin, Mary Kate was also in attendance.

The show was dubbed as a huge success and featured a simple but sexy collection by Burberry, courtesy of creative designer Christopher Bailey.

The show was streamed live at 6:30 PM GMT and featured Chanel Iman gracing the catwalk.

It's good to see fashion houses embracing the digital age. Be sure to sheck SW for the video of the show.

London Fashion Week- Boutique Kitsune Maison

The first Kitsune pop up store in London was hosted at the modest yet elegant surroundings of The Shop at Bluebird in Kings Road last night and I think its safe to say that Boutique Kitsune Maison has found another home in our much loved city . Cocktails, live music, a bevy of fashionista's and quite an impressive clothing line were top of the agenda for the Japanese fashion label and though the cocktails made it easy for ones eyes to lose focus, the chic handbags and tailor esque skinny jeans brought my vision right back into focus.

More of a concept rather than a fashion label, the idea that lies beyond the surface of the avant garde inspired collection is to introduce Kitsune's Universe which merges music, graphics and fashion and houses them under one project.

Even amongst the sea of networking, die hearted fashion followers, it was clear to see that Boutique Kitsune Maison captured the attention of the London crowd and their collection is definitely one to look out for.

Keisha Speaks Out On No Longer Being In The Sugababes

Keisha took Twitter to say her piece:

"Dear Friends I'm sad to say that I am no longer apart of the Sugababes. I've had a great time and have achieved more then I ever thought I would. Although it was not my choice to leave, it's time to enter a new chapter in my life. I have nothing but positive things to say about the girls and I wish them the best of luck. I would like to state that there were no arguments, bullying or anything of the sort that lead to this. Sometimes a break down in communication and lack of trust can result in many different things. I would also like to point out that I have always supported the girls and they have also supported me. Remember my drunk pictures out with Amelle, supporting her on her success with Tinchy Stryder... Oh the shame... But what a fun night we had "

"Now I'm going to take some time to focus on me. I've been in this band for 11 years and I have achieved so much.I have a great family and friends who are behind me 100% and at the age of 24, I'm now going out into this world on my own...Although im nervous... I'm still very excited on what lies ahead. :-) I want to thank the Sugababes fans and my fans for all your support and all who have never judged me, but excepted me for who I am...The feisty, funny, professional, fearless, motor mouth... lol This is not the end... but the beginning!!!!
Thank you always... Keisha xxx"

BREAKING GOSSIP: Jade Ewen To Replace Keisha In The New Sugababes Line Up

What a palava!!

The rumours have been confirmed......Jade Ewen will be joining the Sugababes, not to replace Amelle as everyone assumed, but to replace the original band member Keisha Buchanan!! Keisha had no idea.

Did anybody see that coming? I sure didn't!

Keisha, like I expected has been offered a solo deal with Island records, so it's not the end for her, but a brand new journey.

I thought the group would just break up and everyone go their own ways. Keisha's always been branded as the 'bitch' of the group so I can see why the decision for her to leave was made, but how can the Sugababes be without not one original band member?? They need to re-name the group.

As for Jade, who's single 'My Man' came out today, I believe she should've stayed solo, she's better as a solo artist. Keisha called Jade "my friend" last week

Rumours are spreading that the Babes' management have been auditioning for Keisha's replacement from last week and have been re-recording their new album behind Keisha's back. Jade was said to be in LA last week, which is where the Sugababes have been to film their new video.....

More info on this mix up to come!

Another New Member To The Sugababes?

Yesterday rumours were rife that the UK's Eurovision Song contestant, Jade Ewen, would be replacing Amelle Berrabah.

I refused to listen to the rumours, as it would be a crazy thing for Jade to do because she's got a record deal with Geffen and was gearing up for her debut single, 'My Man' to be released. There's been many 'sources' that have told me these rumours are true, but Sugababes member Keisha told the News Of The World it's not true:

"It's not true she's joining. She's a friend of mine but no, I'm not a liar. It's completely false, that's the honest to God truth. One hundred per cent."

Even though Keisha has made this statement, it still doesn't stop people wondering about the real truth to this rumour. Jade's representatives have done nothing to put a halt to this so-called rumour and sources close to Jade have said she's in LA, which is where the Babes currently are shooting their the video for their next single.

Island Records are expected to make an announcement this week about the future of the Sugababes, which is causing speculation about Amelle's position within the group.

I really like the Sugababes, but they've already had two members leave the group. For a third member to leave connotes that there is a serious problem with the dynamics for the group and Keisha and Heidi should just call it a day.

I await to here this announcement......

Concert Review: Jay-Z at the Roundhouse, Camden

It was Jay-Z mania in Camden last night as lucky ticket holders for his sold out show at the Roundhouse, queued to watch the record-breaking rapper perform. ROC signs were being thrown up in the air in the queue by Rocawear wearing ladies, whilst BluePrint3 flags and billboards were waved about outside the music venue.

With no supporting acts, the crowd, which I must say was a very multi-cultural one - mainly full of people I don't expect were fans of the Jigga man before Glastonbury or his collaborations with other music acts such as Coldplay, Linkin' Park, Rihanna and Kanye West - waited for nearly two and a half hours before Jay-Z appeared on stage. Normally when waiting hours for an act, the crowd normally becomes restless....well not in this instance!

Ten minutes before Jay-Z was to appear on stage, a countdown timer appeared on the huge screen followed by a deafening cheer by the crowd. As the timer got to 0:10, the crowd started to countdown the beginning of the show, which kind of reminded me of New Years Eve, and at 0:00 the live band dropped the beat for 'Death Of Autotune' and HOVA himself appeared. The hyped crowed rocked their heads to the beat whilst throwing up the diamond ROC sign rapping along with Jay to the beat.

"Ya'll are pretty quick with your fingers.....I heard this show sold out in two and a half seconds!" Jay-Z said to the frenzied crowd, which lead to everyone in the building chanting 'HOVA! HOVA!'. With hype man Memphis Bleek, Jay rocked the Roundhouse dropping classsic hits one after the other such as 'Heart Of The City', 'ROC Boys', 'I Just Wanna Love U' and 'Jigga What, Jigga Who'. He even had the crowd singing along to the Oasis classic 'Wonderwall'!

The New York rapper also dropped his #1 UK single, 'Run This Town' sans Rihanna and Kanye, and also the best track (in my opinion) on BluePrint3, 'Empire State Of Mind', which sounded great even without Alicia Keys' soulful voice, which was replaced by an unknown singer who graced the stage with Jay. I think Jay should've performed a few more tracks from the album, especially 'Thank You', but I guess he wants to save all of that for his world tour, which he'll emabark upon after a few more single releases from BluePrint3.

Not many rappers can work a stage, but I must say Jay definitely doesn't fall into that category. I was fully entertained. All in all the concert was great, mind you I wouldn't expect anything else from somebody at the top; top of the album charts, top of the singles chart and top of the list as one of the G.O.A.Ts

Chris Brown Community Service

Chris Brown got his community service on recently and looked in a good mood.

He was seen waving for cameras with a smile on his face. Should he really be portraying to the world that he is happy, as many are going to perceive it as he isnt remorseful.

Or is it time for everyone to give him a rest about the Rhianna situation and let him progress with his career?

Aww poor thing!

Perri Kiely, 13 of the dance group Diversity, injured his head whilst performing in front Prime minister Gordon Brown and a handfull of shocked journalists at 10 Downing Street yesterday. Perri, known to many as "the cute one" was in the middle of performing yet another dance spectacle with the rest of his group members when an attempt at his usually successful air grazing back flips, witnessed the bushy hair cutie land head first on the concrete...ouch!

Adhering to the old saying, "the show must go on", the remaining members of the Diversity dance group finished their ever creative dance routine in celebration of the Second Talent and Enterprise TaskForce, before immediately rushing to young Perri's aide.

Luckily the young member wasn't badly injured, although he was seen rubbing the back of his head in pain...bless him!

Next time be more careful hun..xx

Album Review: Eric Roberson- Music Fan First

In 2003 I strolled in to Mr Mister CD (R.I.P) and was stopped in my tracks by a sound that I had never heard before! That sound was 'Hold On' by Eric Roberson and I've been a follower and fan eversince.

To say Roberson aka 'Erro' is one of the best artists out today is an understatement! Having wrote songs for Carl Thomas, Musiq Soulchild and Dwele to name a few, Eric has been producing GOOD music since the mid nineties.

For the quality of music that he has put out over the years Eric Roberson should be a more well known artist on a commercial level, but the fact that he isn't is what I think makes him such a respected musician and entertainer! After the huge success of his last album 'Left' Eric returns with 'Music Fan First', a 17 track opus that keeps up his reputation of producing quality heartfelt soul/RnB music. Much like his past efforts, this is definitely one for the G.O.O.D. music connoisseurs.

My stand out tracks are-

'Breakitdown'
'Dealing (ft. Lalah Hathaway)'
'Newness'
'A Tale Of Two (ft. Ben O'neill & Michelle Thompson)'

Although I said he does not have the commercial success I feel he deserves, (especially in the UK), make no mistake that Roberson does have a massive legion of loyal fans and that will only be enhanced by those who decide to pick up 'Music Fan First'.

There are very few artists who can write and perform music that touches your senses and makes you have to give your full attention for a songs entirety. With a market oversaturated with one hit wonders and gimmick dance songs, it's time real talent was rewarded.

Be sure to log on to www.EricRobersonMusic.com and get your copy of 'Music Fan First' and also his earlier albums. You can also keep up to date with his tours and UK dates and appearences. The album is now available from independent CD stores and iTunes.

President Obama - "Kanye Is A Jackass."

Yes you read right!!

Mr Barack Obama was reportedly overheard calling Kanye West a 'jackass' over Kanye's interuption of Taylor Swift's speech at the 2009 MTV VMAs, whilst doing an interview with CNBC.

The comment was allegedly made in an off-the-record segment, but was leaked by Terry Moran, the co-host of ABC's Nightline, on his twitter page, which he later deleted.

An ABC spokesman later said: "In the process of reporting on remarks by President Obama that were made during a CNBC interview, ABC News employees prematurely tweeted a portion of those remarks that turned out to be from an off-the-record portion of the interview."
"This was done before our editorial process had been completed. That was wrong. We apologise to the White House and CNBC and are taking steps to ensure that it will not happen again."

Kanye Apologises To Taylor Swift Publicly On TV

He knows what he did was wrong....I think he just got caught up in his own little big-headed world.
Kanye is a perfectionist and he obviously believed that in order for the MTV VMAs to be perfect, the perfect winner in his eyes, Beyonce, should've won.

Even though Kanye went too far this time, nobody's perfect...we all make mistakes. He's accepted his mistake and is remorseful, and is even willing to put things right, which is a great start to showing just how sorry he really is.

Whose Albums Are Being Pushed Back?

Yes you guessed it.....Cassie

Her sophomore album was meant to have been released from since last year, and it has been pushed back so many times now. This time it's been reported to be pushed back to 2010.

Diddy needs to stop dating his artist and focus on her album being released......unless he's planning on just keeping sweet and never releasing her album?

Talking of Diddy, his album, 'Last Train To Paris', is also getting pushed back to 2010....

He originally wanted to release the album in September, but supposedly shelved the idea when he found out that Jay-Z was dropping BP3 then too!

MTV has reported that the album will be pushed back. In August, Hip Hop Weekly reported that the album had been pushed back to 2010 and that they would release a four song, four video EP in October.

Bad Boy have not confirmed this.

At least Janelle Monet album was released....it seems as if she's the only artist at Bad Boy that Diddy's concentrating on apart from his Dirty Money crew
